Siem Reap Province has a population of nearly 900,000. It is one of the nine provinces that makes up the Tonle Sap Biosphere Reserve. The province is best known as being the site of the Angkor Wat Temple complex. Angkor Wat is the largest Hindu religious monument in the world, with site measuring 195 hectares. It was built by the Khmer King Suryavarman II in the early 12th century as his state temple and eventual mausoleum. Angkor Wat was instead dedicated to lord Vishnu.
